The Baltimore Ravens lost to the Eagles 24-19 behind three missed field goals by the most accurate kicker in the history of the NFL, Justin Tucker. If we’re ‘mathing’ the Ravens would have easily won the game if Tucker made those each of those attempts or at least changed the trajectory of the final outcome by making at least two.
We rarely talk about certain positions in football because of the tremendous value they assert subconsciously. The kicker is one of let’s say, five positions that an NFL Organization relies on to progress the program forward into championship contentions. Here is a list of the five posiitons in football that aren’t talked about enough and often take for granted. Feel free to comment below whether you agree or disagree:
- Kicker – We love Justin Tucker in Baltimore, but damn!
- Center – the exchange between QB and C is often ‘blamed’ on the C for snapping too early, or over the QBs head, etc. this player, with no doubt, will touch the ball each possession and must be trusted.
- Long Snapper – One job. One job only – unlike some other positions, this player has one mission – long snap… and make it perfect!
- Holder – Next to the actual kicker, this player must perfect techniques to catch and turn the ball for the kicker to hit bare ball. If laces show, it won’t be a great day!
- Punt and Kickoff Gunners – These guys are undervalued 2nd and 3rd string DBs and WRs constantly making key stops on special teams.
Maybe some positions at your place of business might also draw comparisons like mail handler, front desk clerk, your technical repair team. Football and sports in general always makes a 1:1 comparison to the workspace by some means! Let’s make today great, and take care of the people we don’t often see!!!
